Making Compassion Cool with Dr. Jeremy Goldberg

Updated: Apr 11, 2020

Despite our best effort to overcomplicate our lives, most of us only have one of six problems:

1. We don't know what we want.

2. We do know, but we don't admit it.

3. We admit it, but we don't allow ourselves to pursue it.

4. We allow ourselves to pursue it, but don't know how to get it.

5. We do know how to get it, but we don't do those things.

6. We do those things, and we get what we want, but we still aren't happy, so we return to sleep.

-------------------------------------

Courage is knowing it might hurt and doing it anyway. Stupidity is the same. And that’s why life is hard.⁣ But that’s only one reason. ⁣ Luckily for us, there are countless others.⁣ We’re irrational, arrogant, and lazy, but think we’re not. That’s because we resist the truth.⁣ And of course, we assume that what we think is true for us is true for everyone else. Because we feel like people know who we are and what we want even when we don’t tell them.⁣ Probably because we don’t really stand up for ourselves or our desires.⁣ But even when we do, the things we want don’t give us the life we crave. Because we’re almost always chasing the wrong things.⁣ Except for when we’re distracted or avoidant and making excuses.⁣ Oh, and we also lie. All the time. About everything.⁣ But what we are really doing is running from responsibility and dodging discomfort. And then we get stuck in shame spirals in the quicksand of the Valley of the Suck or in the bottom of a bottle of wine or a tub of ice cream.⁣ So we isolate ourselves and need help but are too proud to ask for it.⁣ So we prioritize the needs of others over the needs of our hearts in hopes that external validation and approval will fill the hole in our souls our own self-abandonment dug for us.⁣ How's that going for you?⁣

Dr. Jeremy Goldberg has been helping people become compassionate since 2010.

His mission is to make kindness cool, empathy popular, and compassion a commonplace.

As part of that purpose, he writes articles, sends emails, hosts retreats and workshops, gives TEDx talks, coaches clients, hosts a podcast, writes books, and makes spoken word poetry videos.

On March 4, 2020, Jeremy and I will be doing an IG LIVE at 8:30 pm EST on my page @deebird20 and we will be discussing Jeremy's imprint of service in the world.

I will be recording the IG LIVE and uploading the audio here for you to listen to in the future.

Thank you for your constant support in my mission to spread holistic healing education, tools, and skill across the world!

All the love,

Danielle
