Can I make a PSA for all the creatives and entrepreneurs out there?
Okay, cool, here it goes:
Let’s start with this quote by
“Recognizing that people's reactions don't belong to you is the only sane way to create.
If people enjoy what you've created, terrific.
If people ignore what you've created, too bad.
If people misunderstand what you've created, don't sweat it.
And what if people absolutely hate what you've created?
What if people attack you with savage vitriol, and insult your intelligence, and malign your motives, and drag your good name through the mud?
Just smile sweetly and suggest, as politely as you possibly can, that they go make their own fucking art.
Then stubbornly continue making yours.”
Recently, I saw a number of “fitspo” individuals apologizing and sharing the guilt they had for taking time and space way from the gram because life, Covid, and a number of different things happened.
Heck, I even did it when I stopped posting my workouts to my page.
Do we really need to apologize or feel guilty for who we are and who we are becoming?
We DO NOT, and we certainly don’t need the approval to evolve.
I get it. My business is on here…there is a level of validation that is needed to propel business,
BUT (big BUT) when who I become for my business is at odds with my soul’s desires, we have a problem.
When it comes to truth vs. belonging, we tend to choose belonging every time.
Belonging is safe, it’s comfortable, it’s what we know will rewards us.
There is no fear of death in belonging.
But...what would it look like for you to choose your truth?
Choosing your truth often means letting parts of you die so that you can evolve and that’s FUCKING SCARY.
THAT is vulnerable.
THAT is courageous.
BUT… THAT means that you chose yourself.
THAT is power…true personal power.
I hope that if you are going through a similar struggle, you choose the habits, behaviors, and actions that support you and water the seeds of your soul to blossom in whatever direction that may take you. 🌻
All the love,
